If your kids love CBBC, there’s a weekend of free events and workshops coming up. So get it in your diary!
CBBC Summer Social
CBBC Summer Social will be held at Salford Quays on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 July. There will be special guests, games and masterclasses with the teams behind some of your children’s favourite shows.
Stars such as Hacker, Karim, Lauren, Katie and Rhys will host the main stage and broadcast live on CBBC from the event on the MediaCityUK Piazza. Barney and Lindsey (Blue Peter), Naomi Wilkinson (Naomi’s Nightmares Of Nature), Paddy Wilde and Ellie Allen (Got What It Takes) will also be entertaining the crowds.
You’ll need to make sure you give youself a good few hours to spend at the event – because there’s so much on!
Children will have the chance to try exciting, creative activities in an arts and crafts zone. As well as this, there will be live science experiments hosted by CBBC’s Ultimate Brain in BBC Learning’s Terrific Scientific Zone.
The Summer Social promises to be especially good for kids who love sports. Children will be able to test their skills with the Match Of The Day Kickabout, and see demonstrations from CBBC presenter and football freestyler John Farnworth.
On top of that, families can also learn about commentating on sports matches from the BBC 5live team. There will also be farmyard games with the Shaun The Sheep’s Championsheeps, and mini-tennis from the Lawn Tennis Association.
There will be an Awesome Author’s stage with a packed programme of live readings, author Q and As and talks. All of this is aimed at inspiring the next generation of writers and storytellers – great for the bookworms in your family. Dan Freedman (Jamie Johnson), Dani Harmer (Tracy Beaker) and Michael de Souza (Rastamouse) will all be appearing.
For younger children there’s a CBeebies zone, with a Go Jetters disco. There will also be the chance to knit your own Clanger and attend a workshop with the Royal Northern Ballet (choreographers of the recent CBeebies Goldilocks ballet). There will be lots of appearances from CBeebies characters – so make sure you take your camera!
